Chinese New Year celebrations 2022

Ni hao! Chinese New Year 2022- the Year of the Tiger landed on 1st February this year. In the past two weeks, pupils at King Edward VI Aston School and partner schools within Swire Chinese Language Centre Birmingham have been busy learning about the tradition and customs of the festival and celebrating the new year.

On Wednesday 2nd February, students studying Mandarin attended workshops in the morning to learn Chinese Kungfu and Lion dance. This was greatly enjoyed by the students and the Year 8&9 boys performed the lion dance to the other students of the school at lunch time. who were much impressed.

Wonderful decorations were put up around King Edward VI High School for Girls on Chinese New Year’s Day and delicious Chinese dishes served in the canteen.

A variety of Chinese New Year activities, led by Sixth Formers, for Culture Week were also held to learn about the festival. The Lower Fourth Mandarin class have also been working hard to produce posters about Chinese Zodiac signs.
