Earth and Moon

Objects in space like the Earth, Moon and Sun are all spherical in shape.

​​​​​​The Earth takes 365 days to orbit around the sun. This is 1 year

  • The Moon takes 28 days to orbit around the Earth. This is 1 month
  • The Earth spins on it’s axis once every 24 hours. This is 1 day

​​​​​​​Because the Earth spins, while the Sun stays in the same position, it seems like the Sun move across the sky, but it does not. This is an illusion. It is the Earth that spins.

The motion of the Earth make it appear that the sun rises and sets (when it is really the earth spinning). The sun rises in the East and sets in the West.
