King Edward’s Consortium (KEC)

The Consortium is a well-established group of 23 excellent – and very varied – schools in the Birmingham area. The mixture of comprehensive, selective, mixed, single-sex, 11-16 and 11-18 schools and one special school in the partnership is a key strength.

The headteachers of our 23 schools are very proud of our outstanding track record in recruiting and training high-flyers for a successful career in teaching.  A typical KEC trainee will be knowledgeable and passionate about their subject and have a clear commitment to a career in teaching.  We always aim to recruit trainees who have the potential to become outstanding teachers – and future leaders – in one of our Consortium schools. Our trainees make a positive difference to the pupils they work with from the very start of the programme and our graduates are highly sought-after for employment once they qualify.

We are rated number one of all Initial Teacher Training providers in the country in The Good Teacher Training Guide 2013.

This is because our trainees are exceptionally well-qualified and because employment rates are very high (100% of trainees from our last cohort secured teaching employment for September 2015).

In addition, new teachers who have trained with us rate their training very positively in the annual National College for Teaching & Leadership survey. We were graded outstanding by Ofsted in our November 2012 inspection.
